About Certificates

What are Certificates?

Certificates are numeric codes generated by an applet that provide documentation of assignment completion or progress. A certificate is comprised of a string of numbers separated by a few dashes. Some applets provide these automatically, while others require that you specifically request a certificate. A certificate identifies you and your progress for a specific applet.

What do I do with the certificate numbers?

Some applets are accessed via a learning management system (BlackBoard, Moodle, etc.). These often supply an assignment tool for delievering certificates for grading purposes. But ultimately what you do with a certificate depends upon your course and instructor. So, your instructor will make this determination. Nevertheless, it's important that you maintain a record of your certificates. They provide proof of your work and should be recorded even though there is normally a server record written for each certificate generated. Even in the case of server crashes, your certificate will guarantee proof of work.
